The short answer

Hydration supports normal performance and temperature regulation, but more water is not a direct muscle-growth hack. Start training normally hydrated, drink to replace meaningful losses, and remember that both dehydration and excessive water intake can be harmful.

For most workouts, keep it simple

For many normal indoor sessions, regular meals, thirst, and access to water are enough. Pale-yellow urine and stable pre-session body weight can be rough practical checks, though neither is a medical diagnostic tool.

What to do: Bring water and drink regularly rather than compensating with a huge amount at the end.

Scale the plan to sweat loss

Hot weather, long sessions, heavy sweating, and high salt loss increase fluid and electrolyte needs. Individual sweat rate can be estimated from changes in body weight around training, accounting for drinks consumed.

What to do: For unusually sweaty training, compare pre- and post-session weight under repeatable conditions.

Avoid turning hydration into a contest

Overdrinking plain water can dilute blood sodium, especially during prolonged activity. Supplements and electrolyte mixes are useful in specific contexts, not mandatory for every 45-minute strength session.
