Dietary fat and muscle gain

Why dietary fat belongs in a balanced growth diet, what it does not do, and why ultra-low-fat or supplement-heavy shortcuts are poor strategies.

The short answer

Dietary fat provides energy, essential fatty acids, and helps absorb fat-soluble vitamins. It supports general health and a sustainable diet; eating a specific fat does not direct fat storage to the butt or independently create glute muscle.

Keep enough fat in the diet

A balanced performance diet includes carbohydrate, protein, and fat in proportions that fit health, preference, and training demand. Excessively restrictive fat intake can reduce food enjoyment and make it harder to meet essential nutrient needs.

What to do: Include regular sources such as nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado, dairy, eggs, or fatty fish as appropriate.

Do not confuse eating fat with storing fat

Body-fat change reflects long-term energy balance, while distribution is influenced by genetics and physiology. No oil, seed, tea, or herb has evidence that it sends new fat specifically to gluteal tissue.

What to do: Choose foods for their nutrition and whether you enjoy them, not for claims about changing one body part.

Protect the whole plan

Very high-fat diets can crowd out carbohydrate or protein when calories are limited. Very low-fat diets can be difficult to sustain. The best distribution is one that meets essential needs and supports training performance and adherence.

What to do: Change one macronutrient only after checking what it displaces.
Myth check

Eating more healthy fat makes the butt rounder.

It can raise calorie intake, but neither fat gain nor its location can be prescribed that precisely.
