Match rest to the limiter
After a heavy hip thrust, Romanian deadlift, or split squat, cardiovascular recovery and local muscle recovery can both limit the next set. Short rest may force a large drop in load or repetitions before the target muscles receive enough high-quality work.
Accessories can move faster
Kickbacks and abduction work often create less whole-body fatigue, so a shorter interval may preserve technique. Even here, rushing is counterproductive if repetitions collapse or other muscles take over.
Use performance as the check
The best interval is not the one that creates the largest burn. It is the shortest interval that still lets the planned set happen with similar mechanics and appropriate effort.
Thirty seconds of rest is best because it burns more.
